Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!
Parent/Teacher Conference Week…
The week of October 10-14, 2011 is Parent/Teacher conference week. Every day this week is a Minimum Day Schedule. Here are a few tips in preparation for your meeting with your child’s teacher:
1. Have interaction with your child’s teacher well ahead of time.
2. Get input from your child before the conference.
3. Write down specific questions you have for your child’s teacher and send them to the teacher prior to the scheduled conference.
4. Ask about your child’s attitude toward school. Before you leave the meeting, have a follow-up plan to address any weaknesses or problems. Then, make sure that you, the teacher and your child follow-up on the commitments made.
5. Finally, stay in touch with the teacher and call another meeting as necessary to evaluate your child’s progress.
Each Friday is OES Spirit Day…
Every Friday is Spirit Day and we encourage students to wear the school colors of forest green and tan. Children can also wear their OES t-shirt. Every child wearing school colors earns a spirit ticket. Once a month, I randomly select one spirit ticket from each grade level and the lucky winners have lunch with me. Each child’s lunch is courtesy of the OES Parent/Teacher Club.
Construction Updates…
All of us are feeling the “earth move, under our feet” as construction progresses at OES! Thanks to the diligent efforts of Durham Construction Company, as of Monday, October 3rd, the children will get their playground back with the completion of the basketball court, newly installed play structures and extended grass field. The demolition of three original classrooms and two very old bungalows is nearly complete to make way for a new parking lot along with the installation of a brand new administration/library building. The construction company revised plans to ensure several trees will not be taken down in the process.
